Iranti is a Yoruba word for remembrance. This ongoing series is a study of cemeteries as places of memory, spanning sites across the United States, from Ohio to Georgia to Alaska, with particular attention to African American burial grounds. Some are lovingly tended; others have been overtaken by time. Together they ask how we honor those who came before us, and who will carry their stories forward.
